JAVEA’S 16th century San Bartolome fortress-church was already badly in need of restoration before Storm Gloria hit the Marina Alta. Now repairs are more needed than ever as the face of the church clock, wrenched by ferocious wind from the tower, fell on the rear of the communion chapel roof where it broke several tiles. A Denia firm has now put up the scaffolding and begun patching up the chapel roof although at some point work must start on repairing leaks in the church roof and the many cracks in San Bartolome’s walls.
