A NEW exhibition of paintings by Cartama-born artist Jesus Villalba opens this week at the Canal Sur Radio and Television headquarters in Avenida de Velazquez in Malaga city.

The show entitled ‘Recortables’ features 10 of the artist’s large format works created using the ‘gouache’ technique.

Also known as ‘opaque watercolour’. this is essentially where paint with natural pigment is added with water and a binding agent.

Villalba, a.k.a. ‘Villi’, uses gouache on solid and silhouetted wood, giving importance to the form.

The works depict daily realities from a hyperrealist perspective.

The exhibition runs until February 29, and is open Monday to Sunday from 9am to 9pm.
