A possible welcome for Camper Vans on Spain’s southern coast

THE town of La Linea de la Concepcion which sits across the border from Gibraltar has something of a negative reputation due to the problems of smuggling of tobacco and drugs and has some difficulty in attracting tourists.

For some years now, camper vans have congregated in the car park of the local professional football club Real Balompédica Linense which plays in Division 2B of the Spanish league.

Now the La Linea council have seen an opportunity to try to make the town a popular destination for international members of the camper van community with the idea of trying to arrange a special holiday meeting in the second weekend of September.

Having met with representative of the group, Mercedes Atanet, councillor for Tourism has indicated that if a trial can be arranged this year, that the council may be in a position to make the campers welcome by incorporating the visit into the town’s annual events.
