Murcia Punished

THE Treasury has punished Murcia for repeatedly breaching the maximum period of payment to suppliers. After a long series of warnings, the ministry has kicked off the process to withhold funds to the community and directly assume the disbursement of the bills that it has to pay.

 

Random acts

ELDA Council has condemned several random acts of vandalism where waste and recycling containers were set on fire in Elda. Also, Parque Antonio Gades

has been vandalized with plants uprooted and thrown into the children’s play area forcing residents to demand police use a “hard hand” against the culprits.

DUE to unforeseen circumstances The Cardenal Belluga Theatre Group have had to cancel their highly anticipated production of “Reach for the Stars”. The amateur dramatics show was set to be produced at the Cardenal Belluga Theatre in San Fulgencio and would have been performed on February 27, 28 and 29.

Bike accident

A 62-YEAR-OLD woman suffered a head injury during an accident while riding a bicycle in an urbanization in the Alicante municipality of Rojales. A unit of the SAMU attended the site where the medical team treated the woman for head trauma and subsequently transferred her to Quirónsalud Hospital in Torrevieja.

Vital crop

ARTICHOKE farmers in the southern Costa Blanca have slammed the lack of assistance the sector has received for the damage from last September’s extreme weather events. A statement from the Vega Beja Artichoke Association claims the sector is “vital” for the region but “has not received one cent in help.”

Health award

The health group Ribera Salud has announced that the Internal Medicine Service of University Hospital of Torrevieja was awarded “for its excellent care”, by the Spanish Society of Medicine (SEMI). The award recognizes the work of all professionals, quality healthcare and the well-being of patients and their families in secure conditions.
