THE National Police have arrested a man for a string of offences against his wife, step-son and public health.
As reported by sources close to the investigation, a 40-year-old man of Columbian nationality was remanded in custody on Monday, February 3 after the 112 emergency services hotline received multiple calls from residents in the early hours of the morning. They had detailed that a heated argument was taking place at a property on Calle Tetuan located in Andratx in Spain’s Mallorca, fearing for the safety of the occupants inside.
Officers from the Guardia Civil and Local Police arrived to the scene a short time later, finding a woman and her son in a state of distress. According to the mother, she had been attacked by her husband after they returned from a local bar in the area.
It is alleged that when they arrived home, the couple got into a disagreement which turned extremely violent. The acts of aggression had woken up the son who stepped in to defend his mother which was met by the man taking an axe and machete from the garage, where he then attempted to attack the son. Fortunately, he missed and was interrupted by the police.
Once taking witness statements, officers conducted a search of the property where they discovered a large marijuana plantation being kept inside the house. The man was subsequently arrested and charged with gender violence, intimidation with violence, drug trafficking and a crime against public health.
In response to the incident, the Guardia Civil have praised the response from residents and officers in the fight against gender violence.
