A man has died after being knocked down by an unmarked police car in Warrington, Cheshire, at 7.30pm on Monday.
The man was struck by an unmarked BMW in the Penketh area last night.
Despite emergency services being called to the scene, the pedestrian was pronounced dead shortly after. Forensics officers are attending the scene of the incident this morning to investigate. The incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
A cordon was placed by police, covering several junctions. The collision itself occurred near the Sportmans Arms pub.
“A road in Warrington has reopened following a serious collision. The incident involving an unmarked police car and a pedestrian took place at 7.20pm on Monday 3 February on Warrington Road in Penketh. The pedestrian – a man – died at the scene. Enquiries are ongoing at this time.
“In line with normal procedure the incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.”
A witness to the incident and scene said: “I was meeting mum and dad in the pub when it happened outside. I had to get escorted by a policewoman because the road was closed.”
