NERJA’S Popular Traditions councillor Elena Galvez has unveiled the programme of events and poster for this year’s carnival celebrations, which this year will run from February 20 to 23.
The striking poster is the work of Ascension Martin Antequera, who has already created several designs for municipal events.
The councillor announced the most important novelty at this year’s carnival will be the return of the marquee for staging activities at the Balcon de Europa promenade. There will also be some changes to the fancy dress competitions and an increase in the amount of the prizes.
Events get underway in the Centro Cultural Villa de Nerja on the Thursday with the official proclamation of the start to the celebrations, which this year will be made by Macarena Arrabal, along with the carnival groups party.
There will be the junior fancy dress competitions on Friday and the naming of the children and adult ‘Buffoon’ and ‘Nymph’.
The grand carnival procession will be on Saturday, along with the prize giving and end of the party at the Balcon de Europa.
On Sunday there will be the traditional competitions for pets.
Events will draw to a close with the so-called ‘burial of the Chanquete’.
