China Accuses US of Spreading Fear & Causing Panic of Coronavirus

The Chinese government has accused the United States of causing panic and fear, following the outbreak of the coronavirus.

The accusation from the eastern nation comes after the US’ decision to declare a public health emergency. In addition, the US will deny entry to any foreign nationals that have visited China within the last two weeks.

Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said the US actions “could only create and spread fear” instead of offering assistance to the issue. It was also highlighted that the US were the first to impose the ban of foreign nationals that have been to China.

“It is precisely developed countries like the US with strong epidemic prevention capabilities… that have taken the lead in imposing excessive restrictions contrary to WHO recommendations,” she said, according to a Reuters report.

Furthermore, any US citizen who has been in Hubei province will be subject to 14 days’ quarantine, upon returning to the United States.

There are more than 150 confirmed cases of the virus outside of China, with the origin country confirming over 17,000 cases – resulting in more than 360 deaths.

After the ban made by the US, other countries also followed suit. Australia were another to introduce the ban alongside the US.
