A 57-year-old man was arrested in the early hours of Wednesday morning on charges of raping a young woman after holding her captive for three hours in her own home in Seville.
The detainee, who has a record for similar crimes and had served a prison sentence for more than 25 years, confessed to the agents that he travelled from Cordoba to Seville on Tuesday specifically to choose a victim and perpetrate the sexual assault.
According to a statement issued by the Seville City Council, a woman alerted the Seville emergency services around 00:45 a.m., claiming to have been sexually assaulted by a man in her own home in a Seville neighbourhood. The victim reported that, in addition to the aggression, she had cuts on her hands caused by a knife carried by the aggressor.
Several members of the Local Police, National Police and Public Health Emergency Company (EPES) 061 were immediately deployed to the scene.
On locating the victim, the young woman confirmed the aggression and was able to give a detailed description of the assailant.
As Euro Weekly News understands, the victim had been following by her aggressor and on arriving at her home, just as she was about to open her door, he attacked her with a knife and forced her to enter her home with him. Once inside, the now detained man, took away the woman’s mobile phone, locked the door from the inside, put the keys in his pocket and spent three hours sexually assaulting her.
The police agents swiftly activated the specific protocol for sexual aggressions and took the victim by ambulance to the Women’s Hospital of the Virgen del Rocío University Hospital for examination and assistance.
Meanwhile, a large police force was deployed in the area near the aggression in search of the alleged offender who was located and identified in Arjona Street, near the Plaza de Armas bus station.
The detainee, who resides in Jaen and was previously convicted for 25 years for similar offences has confessed that he had travelled from Cordoba to Seville on Tuesday on the look out for a victim to perpetrate the sexual assault.
Local police have not ruled out that the man may have attempted other sexual assaults before carrying out the horrific crime committed on Tuesday night.
The deputy mayor of the City Council, Juan Carlos Cabrera, who has followed the information of the case closely, has congratulated the police officers who have participated in this case for their swift arrest of the offender. “The professionalism of the agents has allowed us to find the alleged offender so he can be brought to justice immediately,” said Cabrera in a statement detailing that the City Council will make available to the victim all municipal resources necessary.
