The emblematic Caballito de Mar restaurant in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, has closed its doors after more than 30-years in business.
The highly popular eatery, which was among the favourites of local residents where their tables were even graced by Royalty and the finest celebrities, decided to remain closed after owner Toni Gil Jr returned from holiday.
Toni, who took over the restaurant from his father 18-years-ago, made the decision after receiving several offers from interested buyers on the property market.
He explained that he has already warned the restaurant staff and suppliers that their contracts would be terminated. This brings an end to a business relationship that spanned across several years where the restaurant was once the point of reference for Mallorcan gastronomy on the island. Toni however still owns the Caballito de Mar brand name and is considering using it for new ventures.
Amongst the star studded line-up that have eaten at the restaurant over the years includes Don Juan Carlos and Doña Sofía, Gloria Stefan, Woody Allen, Sharon Stone, Miguel Ríos, Dani Martín, Rafa Nadal, Roger Federer and Cristiano Ronaldo. Famous painters, sculptors and writers have also been lucky enough to taste Caballito de Mar’s renowned cuisine.
