JUST before midnight on Saturday, January 25, a van skipped a red light on Calle Balmes in Palma de Mallorca, Spain and collided with a car on Calle Arxiduc. The drivers of both vehicles then swerved off the road and struck several pedestrians, four of which were hospitalised. The driver of the van then got out of the vehicle and fled, however as it was company owned, the police could verify the individual. He was soon located and a breathalyser test revealed that he was three times over the legal limit for alcohol. The man was subsequently charged with an multiple driving offences, including dangerous driving, driving under the influence of alcohol and failing to report an accident.
