Wetherspoon’s under new rules, adults with children will be allowed to have one drink and a further alcoholic drink with a sit down meal.
It has caused outrage amongst parents after the rule was put in place to stop parents buying more than two drinks each if they are with children. A poster stating the policy was spotted in the Wetherspoon’s pub in Gravesend Kent, following an incident of ‘unruly behaviour’.
According to the Mirror the poster was put up last Sunday. However across the rest of the UK managers are able to put the policy into place at their own discretion. The poster states: ‘As part of our licensing it is our responsibility to ensure that we are protecting children from harm. Therefore adults in charge of children will be allowed to have one alcoholic drink and a further alcoholic drink with a sit down meal.’ It was also stated that staff would have the ‘legal right to refuse service of alcohol’ to customers who exceed the limit.
A spokesman from Wetherspoon has said: ‘The notice was briefly up in the pub, but this is no longer the case. The manager took the decision to put the poster into the pub to emphasise to customers that she would not allow parents to drink while their children were running round uncontrolled in the pub. The notice had a positive effect, with mostly good feedback.’
