COSTA ALMERIA NEWS: Macael marble industry tourist appeal at FITUR international travel fair

MACAEL is back at this year’s FITUR international travel fair to promote the tourist appeal of the municipality’s marble industry.
Central to the Macael visitor promotion campaign is the ‘Canteros y Caciques’ three-day celebration of the history of the sector, which this year will take place from June 5 to 7.
The event relates the story of the workers’ fight against the marble chiefs, with many local residents taking an active part.
Last year it attracted some 8,000 visitors and reaped financial benefits of in the region of €700,000.
Other important cultural projects in the pipeline in the municipality are the enlargement of its marble museum and the recovery of the ‘Camino Viejo’ track.
