WATCH: Weird wintery weather on the Costa Almeria as snowploughs needed for first time on Nijar to Los Gallardos motorway

THE wintery weather is creating some highly unusual scenes on the Costa Almeria.

Today Wednesday snowploughs were out for the first time ever on the A-7 motorway between Nijar and Los Gallardos to clear the road of piles of hailstones.
This morning’s hailstorm left a covering of white across the landscape, not at all a typical sight so close to the coast.
Guardia Civil traffic patrols were out and about in the area too to keep an eye out for risks to motorists.
The Emergencias 112 Andalucía advised drivers travelling in areas with snow and ice to check their vehicles’ tyres, lights and anti-freeze before setting out, and to have tyre chains in place. They also called on drivers to make sure fuel tanks are full and to drive carefully.
