Junta action on four Costa Almeria highways damaged by extreme weather events

THE Junta de Andalucia is set to carry out €3.5 million worth of repairs on four Almeria highways which were particularly badly damaged by last September’s extreme weather events. The Public Works regional ministry will carry out works on the A-334 between Baza and Huerca-Overa, the A-349 between Olula del Rio and Tabernas, the A-350 going Huercal-Overa to Pulpi and the A-1205, also in Pulpi. The Junta delegate in Almeria Maribel Sanchez Torregrosa presented details of the emergency projects this week, accompanied by Public Works, Infrastructure and Land Ordinance territorial delegate Eloisa Cabrera. Cabrera explained the works come under measures related to highway safety included in the 2014-2020 European Regional Development Fund Operational Programme for Andalucia. She also highlighted what she described as the “Junta de Andalucia’s agility and speed in Almeria province” in response to the impact of last September’s storms, pointing to examples like the €75 million approved for immediate action within days. In total the Andalucia Government Vice-presidency has through Local Administration directed €3.2 million to 46 Almeria municipalities, while the regional Agriculture, Fisheries and Sustainable Development ministry approved €48 million of assistance, of which €23 million is for this province. There is also €12 million for 128 actions on water course, €8 million for rural roads and €3 for water works. The head of the Public Work delegation’s Highway Maintenance and Exploitation Section, Manuel A. Garcia, said the works on the four highways are due to start immediately.
