THIS year is the 250th Anniversary of the birth of Beethoven and there are a number of events taking place to celebrate his music.

On Sunday January 26, Project Music is bringing international pianist Cahal Masterson to Marbella from Belfast to perform a selection of the great composer’s work.

Having recently released his first classical album and having played in Canada, China and much of Europe, this young pianist is making a name for himself whilst keeping his base in Northern Ireland.

The concert will be held at Truffels in Elviria and will include a number of Beethoven’s best known compositions with tickets costing €35 to include a welcome drink and canapes on arrival and a 30 minute Q&A session after the event which starts at 8pm.

Then on Tuesday January 28 he will appear again, this time at the D-Wine Restaurant, Calle Norte in Marbella but time the evening will include a three course dinner including wine at a cost of €60.

Some of the income obtained from the two nights will go to the popular charity Knitted Knockers, who make hand-knitted prosthesis for ladies who have had a mastectomy or lumpectomy.

As part of the celebration, there will also be a music appreciation course focusing on Beethoven’s Symphonies on Monday evenings in February in a private room at the Playa Real Club Heritage Resort, Marbesa with the first event taking place at 7.30pm on February 3.

The course is ideal for those both new to the composer’s works and those who have admired him for some time, with entry costing €15 each week.
