Cycling boosts Altea’s low season in the Costa Blanca

HERICK CAMPOS, the Valencian Community’sdirector general for tourism, recently visited a local hotel’s facilities for cyclists.
The hotel Cap Negret has for some years been used by the professional cycling teams who train in the area each winter, helping to de-seasonal is the local tourist industry during the low season.
“It is an honour for Valencian Community Tourism to support the work that this sector is carrying out,” Campos declared. “Hotels like the Cap Negret demonstrate that cycling-tourism is a segment of sports tourism where we can be competitive,” he said. “We have the climate, infrastructure and, above all, we have hotels that have adapted to this sector’s needs by making significant investments,” Campos pointed out.
“These help the Valencian Community stand out, owing to the quality of establishments directed at professional teams and individual cyclists.”
At present the Bahrain McLaren team–possibly the best in the world-is currently staying at the Cap Negret, manager Amparo Garcia said.
“We are aware of what these teams need, we collaborate with routes, suggest where to spend their free time and invite them to get to know the area,” she added.
