ALFAZ began resurfacing the road adjoining the football pitch in Albir. Asphalting the 150-metre section of road will cost an estimated €60,000 and should be finished within two weeks, Urban Development councillor Toni Such said. Visiting the site recently with Technical Services councillor Oscar Perez, Such explained that this will improve the connection between Avenida San Pere in front of the health centre and Calle San Miguel. “It’s fair to say that the countdown to building a bridge over the Soler stream in Calle San Miguel has begun,” Such said. “This will eventually relieve congestion at the entrance to Albir, which in turn will improve traffic flow. Work on the new bridge is due to begin once the resurfacing is finished,” Such continued. At present Calle San Miguel is not a through-road and is separated at two points by the Soler stream. Plots of land earmarked for residential and public use are located at the northern section which intersects with Avenida del Albir, while the southern section near the Centro Social Playa de Albir, football pitch and shops ends where Calle San Miguel meets the Old Altea Road, Cami Vell d’Altea. Once these two sections are linked, the road will provide an alternative route for Benidorm-bound traffic leaving the N-332, Such said.
