WATCH: Residents stunned as hungry wild boars roam Spain’s capital

IT is not every day that one sets their eyes on a wild boar, especially in Spain’s cosmopolitan capital.

However, residents were left stunned in Madrid as two wild boars roamed through the city, where footage of the surprising sighting has now gone viral on social media.

The video was aptly captioned by a resident as ‘How was your day? Well, normal, when I left work I found two wild boars in Las Tablas‘ and shared on Twitter, soon garnering thousands of comments and shares. It shows the animals strolling peacefully around a park and onto the streets of the busy Las Tablas district.

This is not in fact the first time the animals have been seen in Madrid, as just a few months ago a group of ten boars caused an accident on the M-50 in Las Rozas. In 2018,  the Ministry of Environment had also described wild boars in Madrid as a “plague” where they would be culled due to the dangers posed on health.

Environmental experts indicate that over the last few years wild boars have moved away from the mountain regions and are reaching closer to the city. Due to this, the government is now determining what level their population numbers should be set at to ensure road safety and limit the threat of the African Swine Plague (PPA) disease.
