AN EL Ejido police officer managed to talk down a young woman who was threatening to throw herself off a balcony.
The female officer was a member of one the patrols called out to the property in response to a report a 29-year woman was planning to commit suicide by hurling herself down onto the street below following a family argument.
After talking with the woman for half an hour or so the officer managed to gain her confidence. She persuaded the 29-year old to come down from the railing onto which she had climbed up and got her safely inside the property, where a health team was waiting to sedate her.
The incident occurred just before the start of the municipality’s San Isidro race, causing a half hour delay to the start of the annual sporting event.
