A 40-year-old Moroccan national, Mohammed Barbri, Arrested in Spain For Suspected Murder Of Wife Samira El Attar

THE CASE of the disappearance of Samira El Attar had become widely followed by media in Italy after the 43-year-old woman disappeared into thin air on October 21st from Stanghella (Padua) after accompanying her daughter to school and visiting a neighbour.

The case had been shrouded in mystery from day one. Mohammed Barbri, husband of Samira El Attar, had always professed his innocence in the disappearance of his wife and appeared several times on television and in the media, launching appeals to find Samira. The daughter of Mohammed and Samira is currently entrusted to her maternal grandmother Malika, who arrived in Italy last week and who in these days remains in the home of Stanghella where the couple lived.

Barbri who was arrested yesterday in Spain, had been on the run since New Year’s Day after a turn in the investigation pointed in his direction as the possible culprit. It’s reported that Barbi left his house on New Years day around 7:30 am., riding a bicycle and at 5 pm that same day his mobile phone was disconnected and authorities lost track of his whereabouts.

Following Mohamed Barbri’s escape, the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Rovigo issued an arrest warrant valid throughout Europe however it was feared that if the man had fled to Morocco, where it’s suspected that he had another family, the arrest would be almost impossible.

Spanish authorities informed last night that they have the man in custody. The arrest took place in Madrid during a routine check.

It is believed that 40-year-old Moroccan national arrived in the Spanish capital on a Flixbus from Milan. The Prosecutor’s Office has requested his extradition.

Mohamed Barbri is under investigation for the suspected murder of Samira El Attar.
Barbri is also under investigation for allegedly hiding his wife’s body.
