RAINBOW LORIKEET chick (Trichoglossus haematodus) was the first happy event of 2020 for Terra Natura in Benidorm.
The new arrival is the second bird of this species to be hatched there since the zoo park received rainbow lorikeets ceded by the Foundation for the Investigation of Animal Behaviour and Biodiversity (FIEB) in Toledo.
The birds were impounded during a police operation into illegal trafficking of exotic species, as Spain is well-known as a transit area for illicitly imported parrots, parakeets and macaws from Central America, Africa and Oceania.
