ALTEA’S publicly-owned Municipal Development Company (PDM) has been clearing vegetation on rural roads and zones adjoining the RiverAlgar.
Using a forestry shredder, operatives paid special attention to the over-abundant reeds, which are included in the list of the 100 most dangerously-invasive plants compiled by the International Union of Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
“It has been possible clear large areas throughout the municipality, thanks to this machine that removes and shreds undergrowth and reeds,” said infrastructures councillor Diego Zaragozi.
The shredded reeds and vegetation can now be converted into compost that is left in a fine layer on the ground and is suitable for both agriculture and gardening, he explained.
