Drunk driving teenage tourists go on the rampage on Spain’s roads

A GROUP of three young boys went on the rampage on Spain’s roads in the early hours of this morning (January 12), resulting in the driver crashing the car.

The incident took place just after 6.30am this morning on the GI-503 near Darnius in Alto Ampurdán, a region of Catalonia situated in the province of Girona. It is understood that the driver, who is reported to be under the age of 16, lost control of the vehicle and mounted the curb, landing in a ditch on the side of the road.

The emergency services were immediately notified of the accident by a local resident, where officers from the Mossos d’Esquadra, the fire brigade and an ambulance arrived at the scene a short time later. Upon realising the age of the driver and his two passengers, the police suspected that they all had been out drinking alcohol. A breathalyser test was then performed on the driver which produced a positive result.

As a result of the accident, the passenger who was sitting in the back seat, also under the age of 16, was injured where he was taken to the Josep Trueta Hospital in Girona. The driver and his front seat passenger were unharmed.

As Euro Weekly News understands, all of the boys are of French nationality and it is understood that they were driving a rental car being on holiday at the time.

According to the local press, the driver was arrested for driving without a license, driving whilst intoxicated and driving dangerously. It is not yet clear how the group were able to obtain a car considering their young age.
