Hospital Universitario del Vinalopó in Alicante is using a new MRI scan that can give a diagnosis in 90 seconds. This state-of the-art technology minimises radiation and has revolutionised many of the minimally invasive interventions in the province.
In addition to speed and precision, the technology also reduces harmful radiation. Patients are already benefiting from the scan and medical professionals are able to act quickly and avoid complications.
Diagnosing somebody who has been seriously injured in an accident or detecting an imminent heart attack in just one minute and a half can be key in saving lives. The head of Radiology in the hospital, Ángeles Franco, explained that a speedy diagnosis is important for unstable patients. She added that the new MRI scan is a big breakthrough as the procedure can usually take anywhere from 15 to 90 minutes.
