The Royal Yacht Club in Torrevieja is promoting the ‘Paralympic Relay Rowing Day’ that will take place on January 19 at 11am. The Director of the program, Santiago Sanz, encouraged all people with physical disabilities who are interested in rowing to participate in the event.
Sanz explained that the activity is intended for people with physical disabilities, cerebral palsy and visual impairment or blindness between 8 and 45 years of age. Residents of neighbouring municipalities including Orihuela Costa, Guardamar and Miguel de Salina were also invited to attend or compete.
Germán Soler, president of the club, said that the organisation is focusing on Paralympic sports. He added that the aim is to give different groups the opportunity to take part and create an inclusive environment.
Torrevieja’s Royal Yacht Club began the journey towards inclusion six years ago. The facilities were changed to include adapted boats and modified rowing machines and trainers learnt the necessary technical knowledge. According to the club, a public concession for the use of port space has seen positive results as they have received the support of the Spanish Paralympic Committee.
