ADRA council has agreed to ask for up to €200,000 of national Sports Council funding for equipping municipal facilities.
The request relates to notification of the availability of Sports Council’s subsidies for local corporations adding up to a total of more than €4 million.
The local authority said it particularly wants financing for the Miramar stadium, and specifically for constructing a new building with six changing rooms, a gymnasium and a multi-purpose centre.
The Adra administration said its aim is “continue improving the spaces in which young people and adults can continue developing the practice of sport”, adding, “sport is one of the fundamental pillars of this government team’s road map.”
“It is a notification which we cannot let pass up by as, fortunately, increasingly more Adra residents, of all ages, practice sport as part of their daily routine”, commented Sports councillor Pedro Peña.
“The town is growing and we have to adapt, especially when it comes to promoting such a healthy, necessary habit as sport.”
The councillor pledged the council “will continue working along this line to improve the town’s sports facilities”, expressing the hope there will be a response to the request from the Sports Council soon.
