THE Segura Hydrographic Confederation plans to declare the Cartagena de Campo aquifer as a body of water with chemical risk at its next government meeting, which will be held in February.

This was confirmed by the president of the institution, Mario Urrea, in statements to the media before meeting with the mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta.

Urrea indicated that the topic was already raised at the last meeting and its approval is planned for next month.

Asked about the recent conference at the Comisión Central de Explotación del Acueducto Tajo-Segu, he declined to make any kind of assessment about the possibility or not of a water shipment for irrigation and pointed out that the status of the reservoirs are at level 3, so transfers must be authorized directly by the Ministry for Ecological Transition based on reports issued by the technical commission.
