Buckingham Palace orders staff to work with Harry and Meghan ‘at pace’ as they step back from royal roles

REPORTS are circulating that the Queen, the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Cambridge have directed staff to speed through arrangements for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to step back from their roles as senior royals.

A source at Buckingham Palace has spoken with Sky News and stated that a solution for the couple to relinquish their senior roles will “take days, not weeks”. Together with Prince Charles and Prince William, it is reported that the Queen has ordered their teams to work together at pace with the government and The Sussex Household to find a ‘workable solution’.

Since their shock announcement was made, it has emerged that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had continuously ignored instructions from the Queen to not go public with their announcement until the matter was dealt with in the family. Their decision to go against the Queen’s ask is said to have caused ‘deep sadness’ throughout Buckingham Palace after the pair decided to issue the personal statement through social media. 

Although they have stated the reason to step back as senior members is to become ‘financially independent’, much speculation has been made about what the British public will still fund in their lifestyles. Despite not being able to use the Sovereign Grant, which covers 5% of their outgoing costs, they will still receive income from the Harry’s father, the Prince of Wales, through his private estate.

The couple also will continue to use Frogmore Cottage at Windsor Castle as their UK base whilst away from North America, where £2.4 million in renovations were made at the taxpayers’ expense last year. It is also believed that the Metropolitan Police will continue to provide personal protection officers for Meghan and Harry, due to them being classified as ‘internationally protected people’. This means that they will receive armed security which is paid for by the British government.
