THANKS to an upgrade in the facilities at the football pitches at Ramón Rico and Arroyo de la Miel and a deal with QT&S Services (Quality Tourism & Sports) a sports travel agency, Benalmadena is currently the centre of Dutch football.
More than 40, mainly amateur, teams are spending time in the town during their winter break due to the bad weather in Holland and the far better weather for training in Spain.
It’s good news for sports fans as there will be a number of interesting matches taking place but also great news for the local economy as there will be plenty of overnight stays for hotels in the down season as well as literally hundreds of footballers who need feeding.
QT&S Services specialise in sporting breaks not just for Dutch teams but also Norway and Sweden so the long term prognosis for this relationship between the company and Benalmadena council looks promising.
One of the highlights of the visits was that of the very successful PSV Eindhoven women’s team which is currently leading their division who played an exhibition match against Granda FC Femenino from the second division.
There will be various matches taking place and those announced so far are;
Saturday January 11 at 12.15 pm: RKDEO vs SVC ’08
Saturday, January 11 at 2.30pm TOGB vs Go Ahead Kampen
Saturday, January 11 at 3:.5pm: SV Den Hoorn vs AFC Amsterdam
Saturday, January 18 at 11am: VV Oliveo vs VV Germanicus
Saturday 25 January at 11am: VFC Vlaardingen vs VV Abbenbroek
