A 74-year-old woman has been taken to hospital in Alicante after she was struck in the eye by an airborne toy which was thrown during the Three Kings Parade yesterday evening.

According to the Security Department of the Alicante City Council, this incident took place during the procession of Their Majesties the Three Kings of the East at the height of the Elche plaza, situated on Alicante’s Rambla, in the heart of the city.

In addition to this incident, two other individuals also require hospital treatment. A 76 year-old man for chest pain and another man, 58, or an unfortunate fall which resulted in a fractured bone.

There were also another five “minor” accidents which were treated on site.

A total of 200 local police and Civil Protection volunteers formed part of the Alicante parade.

Minor injures during the parades in Spain during the Three Kings Parade are often frequent given the amount of sweets (sometimes hard boiled sweets) that are thrown out to the crowds.
