BLAZE: 100 people had to be evacuated amid safety concerns
The New Year in Calpe began with a destructive fire that affected three homes in a building in the town centre. According to sources from the Provincial Fire Consortium, at least 100 residents had to be evacuated amid safety concerns. The warning was received at 1.20pm and one fire truck from Benissa and two others from Benidorm attended the scene. The blaze had started in a home on the second floor of ‘Las Murallas de Calpe’ building. Firefighters spent two hours working on the extinction of the flames and the subsequent ventilation of the property. The fire spread quickly and reached two other adjacent homes through the window of an interior patio. Local Police and Guardia Civil collaborated with firefighters as they extinguished the flames. Given the virulence of the flames and the risk of spreading, authorities decided to evacuate the building. An iron is believed to have caused the fire and the owner of the home where the fire started was treated for minor burns.
