ONLINE BANKING HAS CRASHED ON NEW YEARS DAY AFFECTING EXPATS IN SPAIN

Online banking is currently down for customers with three banks.

RBS, Halifax Lloyds are the affected banks.

Customers have taken to social media to vent their rage this morning.

Huge areas of Britain have been left unable to access their accounts on their computers or smartphone apps, whilst people living in Spain who use British bank accounts are also suffering issues.

Halifax and Lloyds apologised for the ‘issues’ and insisted they are working on getting the services up and running again. RBS, which is also part of the same company, has not yet made a statement.

A Lloyds bank social media spokesman tweeted: ‘We know our customers are having issues with internet and mobile banking. We’re sorry about this and we’re working to have it back to normal soon.’

Many expats in Spain on the coasts are also suffering no access and payment cards not working.

Gordon Sutherland from Fuengirola told the Euro Weekly News ” I bank with Lloyds, I’m having a nightmare this morning as I can’t access online banking and my cards are not working”

Whilst Norma Whitters told us ” It’s bloody embarrassing – I just couldn’t pay my bill at the coffee shop this morning, the Spanish lady behind the counter looked at me as if I was trying it on as none of my cards worked, I’ve called the helpline but it’s just messages of please call back later”
