Gibraltar same-sex marriages take a step forward

Equality Minister Samantha Sacramento after October election Credit: HM Government of Gibraltar

ALTHOUGH what could be a controversial part of the Gibraltar Marriage Act has not actually been a problem, it was decided in Parliament that it should be removed from the legislation.

Proposed by Equality Minister, Samantha Sacramento, negation of clause 6B was unanimously supported by all MPs and has been approved by the Governor.

This means that Deputy Registrars will no longer be able to opt out of performing same-sex marriages which have recently been allowed to take place on the Rock.
