Mystery as elderly woman’s lifeless body found in river in Spain

MYSTERY has struck the local community in Vigo, Spain, as the body of an elderly woman was found floating in the Lagares River.

As reported by the National Police, the woman, who is believed to be in her late 70s, was discovered by a passer by who saw a corpse floating in the water near Severino Cobas in Lavadores late this afternoon (December 28).

According to sources close to the investigation, the identity of the woman is unknown at this time as she did not carry any documentation on her. In addition it is thought that she was fully clothed and that her body showed no signs of external violence, with police believing she may have fallen into the water and drowned.

As the incident was called in to the emergency services, several units from the Local and National Police rushed to the scene, pronouncing the woman dead on arrival. As Euro Weekly News understands, an autopsy will be carried out by forensics experts in hope of determining who the woman is and how she died.

The police are now urging everyone who resides in the area to check on their family, friends and elderly residents which may bring some critical information to the case.
