OUR VIEW: 2019 comes to an end

2019 has been an eventful year all around the world.

The year is coming to a close and everybody is preparing to ring in the New Year. And as a new decade waits ahead, we take a look back on what has been a tumultuous 2019.

Politically, we have seen an emotional Theresa May step down and Boris Johnson come out victorious from the first December election in the UK since 1923. Expats in Spain witnessed the fourth Spanish election in three years and Trump became the third US president to be impeached. Never forgetting the omnipresent topic of Brexit, that has dominated headlines and discussions for the duration of the year.

Climate change was at the forefront of the agenda, as young Greta Thunberg became one of the most talked about public figures. The iconic Notre Dame Cathedral went up in flames as the world watched aghast, while an inferno ravaged the Amazon Rainforest.

We have seen terror attacks and brave convicts and millions protest for their freedom in Hong Kong.  The British Royal family has also seen its ups and downs, as baby Archie joined the family and Prince Andrew was excluded after sexual abuse allegations.

So, after such an eventful year, what can we expect from 2020? Some say that we must welcome the unexpected and fear not the unknown, for they bring a sea of possibilities.
