A MAN attended an Alicante court to sign on as part of his bail conditions when a victim in a different case recognised him as the perpetrator of a robbery.

As police approached him the man fled, hotly pursued by two National Policemen.

When one of them caught up with him in the Costa Blanca, Spain city, the suspect threw him to the ground, breaking the officer’s collarbone, then as he scaled a fence the suspect kicked a second officer in the head, breaking his jaw.

A second police patrol finally managed to make an arrest shortly afterwards.

The detained man is alleged to have been one of two men who had pretended to be plain clothes police officers. Using false ID they had approached a 64-year-old man at the gates of the Emilio Villanueva sports ground in Alicante.

They then frisked him under the pretence of conducting a police search, taking the opportunity to steal the victim’s phone. Both men have been remanded in custody.
