WORK to renovate the La Defensora Theatre in Sóller, Mallorca, Spain, has hit a standstill with only 60% of the first phase completed. In response to the news, Carlos Simarro, the Mayor of Sóller, has highlighted his fears that the work won’t be completed by the June 2020 deadline. At a council meeting, Simarro explained that although there is money to pay for all of the work that has been carried out so far, they are in serious danger of losing funding committed for next year as the deadlines have not been respected. Detailing why the second phase is yet to be started, he said: “the first phase of the theatre reform was financed with the sustainable investments of 2017 and had to be executed and paid within 2018 and 2019, but at this point the works are still far from being completed.”
