AT a private ceremony hosted at the Guardia Civil’s command centre in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, on Friday, December 20, Rafael Nadal received the force’s silver cross. The accolade had been awarded to the sports star to mark the Guardia Civil’s patron day, known locally as Virgen del Pilar, in October, in recognition of his close collaboration with the Guardia Civil over the past few years. This included his involvement in a promotional video which was released over the summer season and which aimed at recruiting young talent into the force to mark the 175th anniversary of the Guardia Civil. Among those present at the ceremony was the acting national government delegate in the Balearics, Ramon Morey, and Alejandro Hernández, the Chief Colonel of the Guardia Civil.
