A MAN is facing jail time after he allegedly put a three-month-old puppy in a plastic bag and dumped the animal in a waste container in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, As reported by the police, the defenceless dog was saved from death thanks to a resident who heard its cries just moments before the contents of the bin were due to be taken away to a recycling plant. However, the dog’s injuries were uncovered during an examination at the vets, where the animal had suffered broken ribs, bruised lungs and a brain injury – indicative of prolonged abuse. Appearing in court this week, the prosecution asks that the 22-year-old man is given a one-year prison sentence and a ban from keeping animals for three years. If convicted, the man will also have to pay the Son Reus Peluditos Association €4,446.40 for the hospitalisation and treatment of the dog.
