COSTA BLANCA NEWS: Police set up watch on empty homes

San Fulgencio town hall |

PEOPLE in San Fulgencio on Spain’s Costa Blanca heading off on holiday can now sign up to a police scheme to keep an eye on their property.

The town’s tourism office, located in the Urbanization La Marina, hosted the official launch of the scheme called ‘Police in your Home’ (Policia en tu hogar).

Mayor, José Sampere Balleste said the service will be free and consists of the creation of a list which people can sign up to if they are away from home for at least 15 days and a maximum of three months.

Head of the Local Police, Cristobal Rodriguez, explained that the list will allow his officers to work better and more efficiently by knowing which properties are empty.

Sampere said: “We have a very diverse municipality, which has one of the largest foreign populations in Spain, and we want to take care of it and make them feel at ease.”

In this sense the first mayor stated that “it is a privilege for the town to have more than 50 nationalities who live here. Now they can feel a little easier when going away to visit their families.”
