Costa Blanca News: Alicante City approves solar panels in all schools

CLEVER: The solar panels will be installed on the schools' roof

ALICANTE has shown its commitment to the environment after announcing solar panels will be installed in all of the city’s schools.  The Town Hall of Alicante has approved to draw up a contract for the installation, that will be carried out by the Department of Infrastructure and Maintenance.
Under the direction of Councillor José Ramón González, the department will complete the energy-sufficient project in all the preschools and schools in the City of Alicante. The first phase has been awarded a total budget of €1.1 million with a six-month deadline to complete the task.
Councillor González highlighted the value of the project, which will generate economic savings in schools thanks to the use of renewable energy. The purpose of the contract, divided into three lots, is to provide clean and free electricity in the city’s 33 public schools. The photovoltaic solar panels will be installed on the roofs, which have already been studied to work around any obstacles or shadowy areas.
