Last year’s concert was well attended Credit: Collegium Musicum
THE first of two Christmas concert given by Collegium Musicum in the Hotel IPV Palace and Spa on December 15 began with four festive works by Handel.
It started with Canticorum Jubilo from the sacred drama Judas Maccabeus that tells the story of Hanukkan (the Jewish uprising against the empire, that is the present day Syria), then five movements from his Water Music, followed by Lobet Gott mit Jubelschall (Alexander’s Feast) and Let their celestial concerts all unite (Samson) Then a selection of Yuletide carols from Eastern Europe.
The orchestra then gave us a wonderful rendition of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker suite in which the C.M. secretary and flautist, Driekje gave a quite moving virtuoso performance in the Waltz of the flowers.
Whereas in the past, the C.M.s President, Delyth Bressington, besides being the musical arranger, also became the electronic Percussionist, but they now have, what must be the youngest member of the orchestra in Valerius at just 12–years–old, and who is the son of the lead Cellist.
More carols, this time from the British Isles. Then a compilation from the soundtrack of The Snowman and finally a Mark Hayes Medley of Western European carols rounded off the event.
The 100 choristers and musicians must be extremely proud of what they have achieved under the baton of the ebullient Annemarie Philipps, the Maestra that gave the ‘packed house‘ a Joyous evening’s entertainment.
Look for their next concert’s next year on May 24 in Fuengirola and May 26 in Marbella.
Collegium Musicum are always looking for new voices and instrumentalists So if you have the qualities to join this exceptional group – contact Driekje secretaria@colmus.org or by phone 95277492 696620872 .
