FONDON council has announced three days of official mourning following the death of a local man while working on the Almeria-Murcia AVE high-speed rail line in Cuevas del Almanzora. The 30-year died on Monday morning when a tree he was felling on a dirt track in the Burjulo district came down on him and trapped him underneath, the Junta de Andalucia reported. He was reportedly employed by a sub-contracted firm working on the Pulpi-Vera stretch of the line. Fondon Mayor Valentin Martin issued an official decree announcing the Alpujarra municipality was suspending Christmas activities and that flags will fly at half-mast on all municipal buildings until December 19. Martin also expressed condolences to the young man’s family and friends on behalf of the council and all municipal employees
