THE late Christopher Reeve, who played Superman in the 1979 movie, quoted, “a hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.”
Life is full of challenges and obstacles which are all too easy to submit to. Some people are actively looking for a reason or reasons to block their way or to excuse what they really want to achieve in life. Although this can feel like the easier option, it leaves us unfulfilled and without real purpose.
It can be all too easy to blame outside influences when it’s really only ourselves holding us back. It’s very easy to wait for someone else to come along and hopefully make the changes we want in our lives, well guess what – we could be waiting a long time for that superhero to turn up and save the day.
To make progress we need to look at our past achievements, if we discover upon reflection that they are not what we would have really wished for, then things surely need to change.
Progress is impossible if we continue to repeat past behaviour, If our past results are no longer what we want, then we need to acknowledge, stop focusing on it and start to focus on a result we do want.
Imagining a desired outcome in a positive way is fun and productive. Dwelling on the past will only keep us back there.
The majority of people in life leave this world without fulfilling their desires because many don’t believe they have what it takes to achieve their goals. Most of us are only using 5 per cent or less of our potential, meaning we’re only experiencing 5 per cent or less of the fun, joy and rewards life has to offer.
Most people when asked, what it is in life they want, the answer is usually; money, happiness, health. These are just general conditions that everyone wants, we need to be more specific.
When we are progressing towards a desired positive goal, the journey can be as rewarding as the outcome, regardless of the conclusion. If the goal isn’t achieved then this is where the ‘superhero’ in you needs to come out and save the day. Set another goal and just start enjoying the journey again. Success is not necessarily the achievement itself but the progression towards a worthy goal.
Things may well change along the road to success so you too may need to adapt and change to steer you back on course to progress further.
If you’re not sure what it is in life you really want to achieve or desire, write a list and choose the one which resonates the most, endeavour to make a start.
It doesn’t have to be climbing Mount Everest or saving the planet, it can simply be what feels right and what gives you fulfilment and purpose. Above all you will have direction and a valid reason to move forward, achieving something you never thought possible before.
A superhero is a person who saves the day. Why wait for one to come along. Be your own superhero and start to design, determine and create your own life today.
