Conservative Party candidate Nicola Richards has become the youngest MP in parliament after winning West Bromwich East. The MP claimed the constituency by just over 1,500 votes. Her victory is a massive defeat for Labour. The Tories have claimed former Labour deputy leader Tom Watson’s seat after he stood down in West Bromwich East ahead of the election. She claimed a majority of 1,593 ahead of Labour’s Ibrahim Dogus (Lab) who received 15,211 votes and Christian Lucas (Brexit) had polled 1,475.

Andy Graham (LD) took 1,313 votes, while Mark Redding (Green) received 627, George Galloway (Ind) 489 and Colin Rankine (Yeshua) 56. The turnout was 57.9 per cent. The constituency was represented by former Labour MP Tom Watson prior to the dissolution of Parliament. Politician George Galloway also announced was running to become the incumbent Independent MP for West Bromwich East – but failed. In 2003 he was booted from the Labour Party over comments he made regarding the Iraq war.

The results come as the Labour party suffered a bruising night in the Midlands and further north. Polling experts were immediately predicting seats across the Black Country and Staffordshire would go blue as a result of a major swing, obviously, many of those seats voted strongly to leave the European Union.
