THE leader of the Liberal Democrats is predicted to lose her seat in the election to the SNP, according to the results of the hotly awaited exit poll.

Jo Swinson only has a 5% chance of winning her Dunbartonshire East seat, according to the forecast. The news comes amid what many believe will be an abysmal night for the Liberal Democrats, with the poll handing the party a mere 13 seats.

However, even if Ms Swinson does hold on to her seat, she is likely to be met with calls to resign after a disastrous general election campaign.

The only potential good news for the party is the result in the constituency of Finchley and Golders Green in London, where a win for Luciana Berger could be very likely. She has a 66% chance of taking the seat from Conservative Mike Freer.

Baroness Brinton, the President of the Liberal Democrats said the party’s leader had faced misogyny during the campaign in an interview for ITV News. Questioned if Ms Swinson was to blame for the party’s apparent poor showing, she said she offers a different style of politics compared to Boris Johnson and Jeremy Corbyn.

She added that there have been a number of problems including being on the receiving end of an enormous amount of sexist comments which male politicians hadn’t faced.
