ALICANTE has registered its lowest ever birthrate, National Institute of Statistics figures for 2018 putting it at 7.66 per 1,000 inhabitants, down from 8.18 the previous year.
There were 14,161 births in the province altogether last year, while the number of deaths totalled 16,270.
