MEMBERS of Motril City Council paid tribute to the Air Force by attending a ceremony to commemorate the Patroness of Aviation.
Hosted at the Air Surveillance Squadron No. 9 (EVA-9) base on Tuesday, December 10, a speech was made by Chief Commander José Luis Rando Guirado who praised the “great collaboration” that exists between the force, council and community.
Mayor Luisa García Chamorro presented awards to members of the EVA-9 in a recognition of their dedication to the service. Then, together with the base commander, the Mayor laid a wreath in an act of remembrance to those who have lost their life in the military.
Speaking to the audience, García Chamorro stated that “the history of Motril can not be understood without the Air Force, since there have been so many members of the community who have given their life to the force.”
The EVA-9 is an Air Army Unit that works through the Combat Air Command and who provide critical information to the Civil Aviation Control Centres in Seville, Madrid and Barcelona.
