AN entire Alicante hamlet is up for sale on a Spanish second-hand sales online platform for a ‘bargain’ €90 million. The private seller describes the Santa Eulalia Colony located between Villena and Sax as “part of Spain’s history” as a number of the buildings have Cultural Interest classification and their restoration could qualify for European funding. The 2.7 million square metre estate comes complete with 40 houses, a hermitage, a palace, a casino, an olive press and even a post office. Sax Mayor Laura Estevan told Spanish press that a few months back there were discussions between the family which owns the complex and the provincial, regional and national governments to “find options for its protection” given the “responsibility” of the public administrations for what she said represented part of the locality’s heritage. “There is not an easy answer”, the Mayor commented.
